My name is Bernd Felsche.
This blog is about upgrading the electrics of a second-generation Volkswagen Golf’s electrics to the 21st century using mostly LIN bus nodes, primarily to reduce cabling.
But there’s more. Adding “smarts” to the various switches and acutators will add some functionality as well as increase the ability to detect and to diagnose problems.
My Volkswagen Golf GTI was built in 1990 and has the “new” central electrics. Which is good because it’s easier to understand. But it still entails many wiring looms going back and forth to a central point, adding lots of cable length and connections between supply, switches and loads.
